Introduction
Welcome to the Office of the Registrar's web course on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of
1974 (FERPA). FERPA is the federal law that governs the rights of
students and institutional responsibilities with respect to student
records. This training module is intended to reacquaint members of the
faculty and staff with the law regarding student records as it affects faculty
and staff duties, and to clarify some of the questions that arise in connection
with electronic access to student records.
The course takes about 20 minutes to
complete. It includes several video segments so you'll need a computer
with speakers.
If your computer
cannot play the video, see the Windows
Media Player Support Center for troubleshooting problems (download or
installation of the media and/or player).
The Office of
the Registrar does not provide technical support related to the
download or use of the required media player. However, if you contact our
office we will make arrangements for you to
view this course in our training lab.
To navigate within this course, use the
buttons at the bottom of each page to go back (left arrow) to a previous page
or forward (right arrow) to the next page.
The course has several sets of questions
throughout and you will be prompted to provide the correct responses.
The Office of the Registrar
has additional information on student records available in the FERPA Compliance
Manual, online at http://www.registrar.arizona.edu/ferpa/contents.htm. This
resource may be used in conjunction with this course. Additionally, you may email
your questions to reghelp@email.arizona.edu
If you would like verification of your FERPA training
to be entered into the university database, please complete the form at the end
of this online training program. Please note that access to SIS, UIS and FRS
requires verification of FERPA training.
