Business Rules for Adding, Modifying and Deleting a Course

Form Link, the electronic course routing system, supports the addition, modification, and deletion of courses at the University of Arizona. Following are guidelines for processing courses.

A. ADDING A COURSE

General Guidelines:

Requires submission of a new course form:

  1. establish a new course that has not previously existed

Requires submission of a new course form and deletion of the old course:

  1. change the level of the course (e.g., SOC 134 to 234 , SOC 234 to 334, etc.)
  2. renumber a course to position it more appropriately with other courses in the department (e.g., ANTH234 to ANTH251)
  3. increase or decrease credit hours (e.g., ANTH 234 increased from 3 to 4 units)
  4. split or combine course content (HIST456A [3 units] and HIST456B [3 units] combined in one 4-unit course)
  5. significantly change course content, with or without a change in the course title

NOTE: If the current number is to be kept, an alpha subscript must be added to the number to distinguish the new version of the course from the old version (e.g., HIST234 can become HIST234A/B/C/D/etc., as long as the subscript has not previously been used).
